Responsibility over Sustainability

Sustainability over the years has been green-washed & lost its meaning and so lets make it easy and instead say what we’re responsible for.

Fly By Night Is Responsible For:

  • Creating pieces from only the unneeded, lost or the forgotten.

  • Only using packaging that is either compostable or recyclable.

  • Creating a safe space for POC.

  • Creating a safe space for the LQBTQIA+ community.

  • Continuing to use it’s voice and space for social justice.

  • When the time comes, consciously employing a diverse talent behind and in front of the lens.

  • Always paying others fairly.

  • Recycling all fabric scraps.

This list will evolve and grow as FBN does, if anything is unclear or if you have suggestions of what you would like to see in FBN’s future please email me flybynightnyc@gmail.com

Responsible From The Start

Historically, the fashion industry has disposed of unused or surplus fabrics by sending them to be incinerated, or worse, to landfill sites.

From day one, I decided that if there was to be another fashion brand in the world, then every Fly By Night NYC piece would be authentically sustainable, ethically responsible and built from rescued fabrics.

Working with vintage, movie set, prop houses and dead-stock designer fabrics that can be in short-supply, has become an integral part of my design process, often determining the final look and style of each piece, from the collar to the cuff, or in most cases, from the dress, to the blouse, to the crown.

All the fabric scraps too small to create with are recycled into ‘shoddy’ in Brooklyn which then used for housing insulation.
